When Did Crime Become Entertainment?

I was surfing the web this morning and clicked on "Google Entertainment". I was expecting to find the latest news on Freddy Fender's death or Madonna's adoption, but found the caption "Second Duke Dancer Contradicts Accusers Statement."

When did an allegation of rape become entertainment? When did crime go from an from an excerpt on the nightly news to full time media coverage?

"High Profile" cases are examined nightly on CNN & Fox. Are these shows enlightening us in any way or are they feeding our fascination with the macaub?

Andy Warhol said in 1979 "...In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes." When we become captivated with a crime the victims and their families are subjected to further pain and suffering when they should be allowed to grieve in private and rest in peace. But worst yet the accused is granted 15 minutes of undeserved fame!
